How to Find Cheap House Insurance

If you are going from a renter to a homeowner, it is nice to know how to find cheap house insurance.  Not only is home insurance required by your mortgage lender, it will also protect you from financial losses caused by fire, vandalism, and natural disasters.

Coverage should include the structure (your home), any personal possessions, liability coverage if someone is injured on your property, and living expenses if you need to leave the home for repairs.

There are ways you can lower the premium you need to pay.

First, by increasing your deductible, you can lower the monthly premium.  You will need to be careful however that you do not have a deductible too high that you could not pay it in case you need to file a claim.   Never have your deductible higher than what can be easily accessible to you.

Another way to find the cheapest home insurance is by using insurance comparison websites.  Just like automotive insurance, house insurances can vary greatly depending on the carrier.  It is worth the extra effort to do a bit of research to find the best company and plan.

Sometimes, your mortgage payment can also include home insurance.  You can also ask your mortgage company for agents that offer the most affordable coverage.

Group coverage is another option you can check into.  Some companies may offer group discounts to their employees as an added benefit.  Other places to look are alumni associations or other professional organizations that may offer discounts on homeowner’s insurance.  This can be a lot cheaper than if you are getting the policy on your own.

Lastly, look for discounts everywhere.  Very often, insurance companies will give you a deep discount if you insure multiple items with their company.  For instance, auto insurance companies may also offer homeowner’s insurance.  They may also offer discounts for senior citizens, people who install security systems, living in an area where the crime rate is low, or even to people who have referred other people to their company.

The trick to finding cheap house insurance is researching different companies, asking around for discounts through your work or any affiliations you may have, and by friends or family that you can refer to your house insurance company for added discounts.   Remember to keep your deductible as high as you can possibly afford to keep your premiums low!
